I am never leaving a project that late ever again.

Also.. photoshop sucks. But they are now done!!
I can finally relax for Christmas.
Three painted animals... cropped then letterpressed slogan and photoshopped collaged background. Exhausted.

Progress

Had a productive week. About freaking time!!! Deadline coming up soon, and thought id share some images.
Here is a picture of my very very messy desk... proof that I have actually been working lately.

Im a little bit sick of painting foxes now. There must be 5 or so just around my university desk. The one with the bluey background is one of the first ones I did, thought it was a final but then didn't like the background too much so started the more orange one still taped to the board.

And then my first ever Cheetah!! That no longer looks like a Giraffe. Spots are more difficult than I first anticipated, and it took about a day just to make it look right. Stressful times. Also, a rather cute purpley otter that is not finished. Though in the photo, its body is actually like this and its front leg tucked between its legs, it looks like its about to fall over here. Its not quite finished... but i like the colours so far.

Background to be added to all three, then letterpressed slogans dropped in on photoshop.
Then a Visual research journal. (GUUUUUURGH) a report and all the back-up development work to be documented. Not just sprawled across my desk. So much work to do. Deadline on the 13th. Everything will be alright. Hopefully. :)

Quickie

Sometimes when I paint I over think. When is a painting actually finished?
I like this one because it doesnt look too refined or overworked.
Just a happy feminine looking fox.
Cute.

Time Management

Just a quick update. Im hard at work at uni!!! (at last). Its over a month and a half through the third year and i"m just getting into the swing of things.
Some exciting things coming up soon.
Foxes, Leopards and letterpress.
Super fun times :)

also. dissertations suck.

Shoes anyone?

Wednesday 20 July 2011

If its in a list of things to do, I'm less likely to do it.

How the hell does that work? I thought making a list of things to paint would be some incentive to do some painting, and avoid those... 'I feel like painting but I don't know what to paint' moments. However, it has just left me scouring the internet for alternatives.

Random animal generator - WIN.

So here is an Emu.

The Flamingo was however a request from my friend Louise up in Liverpool to adorn her bare student room.
I think I'm going to experiment with some typography definitions of all these animals overlappping the background wash and white canvas.

Magpies rule.

One for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy, five for silver, six for gold, seven for a secret never to be told, eight for a kiss, nine for a wish, ten is a bird not to be missed.

My Gran taught me that when I was really very little, and walking home today I saw the greenest magpie I have ever seen. After saluting it, I felt inspired to go home and paint.

This is done using only Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Pthalo Green, Yellow Ochre and just a touch of white. I stayed away from using black, as the bird itself isnt black and my colour mixing could do with some practice.

New Banner

Cause the Octopus is cool, but could do with a new angle with my new found painterly style.
Watercolours rule.

Friday 24 June 2011

Number 2 on my list.

Acrylic on VERY cheap canvas paper. A3.

Randomness.

Apparently... when I am bored or have the sudden occasional urge to paint, random animals are my go-to subject. So enjoy this very, very sickeningly cute duck, and a much more awesome Meerkat.

Exhibition

Here are a few snapshots of the end of year exhibition. It was nice to finally see my work together. Usually you do a piece, finish it then put it away and start on a new one. Was nice to see that I actually had a style! Hallelujah!

Missed the opening night because of bar work. LAME. But still feeling a bit proud that I have got this far :)

Squirrel.

The first painting of the summer.
That is such a horrible sentance.
First painting - oh dear I have been slacking lately. Its been about a month since my last university deadline and I have only just started painting again?
And 'Summer'. Painting has sort of become work, which is not good. Thats the problem with doing a course you enjoy. It becomes coursework, not so much a hobby anymore.
So fun stuff only.

Here is a quick squirrel painting I did today.

Sunday 15 May 2011

to do list.

paint....
-stormtrooper
-squirrel
-frog
-owl
-re-paint octobanner
-zombies!!!!
-godzilla (preferably zombie)
-geisha
-pikachu

any requests????

i think im going to make them into a set of postcards and prints over summer, using random images :)

Jenny Saville

LOVES!!!!

FINISHED :D

This is 617 frames of pure acrylic on canvas goodness.
Its taken about a week with painting, editing and sketchbook work.
I am so tired right now it is inhumane.

But im done :D

Scary overworking.

had a life drawing class today
not to happy bout the pink one, but i might try that overworked bowieish style and zombie it up.

Friday 6 May 2011

I was having a bad day. But now i feel slightly more heartened.

I had a meeting with my tutor today who told me a stop motion film would be impossible in the week i had left till deadline.

So, in a panic, me and Bethany Smith, the photographer i have colllaborated with, decided to spend an afternoon trying to paint a video.

Though the actual subject matter of the video is random and a little bit shit, the method works!!!
204 frames in only 4 hours work. though we were only painting for about half hour. an watched an episode of russell howards good news.
and drank lots of tea.
and procrastinated

happy times.

feeling better now.

Foxy...

Just something quick

Tuesday 29 March 2011

I have gone completely batty.

These are my three finals for re-illustrating 'Bat Loves the Night', a children's book by Nicola Davies.

Acrylics on stretched wilkos lining wallpaper :) cause its cheap!

Life drawing final.

Portrait of my mum :)

Thursday 10 March 2011

Because painting is cool.

This is the legend that started it off.
Well not really a legend... but something which i got a lot of positive feedback for at the end of last year. We were meant to do a wash over a page, then work on top. However, due to the black poster paint crusted to the bottom of my palette, what was meant to be a light green turned to a really dark emerald. It was hardwork to bring the light back into the page, but when it finally worked I decided to dedicate my latest project to painting more naked people :)

Dont like quite as much. A little rushed. experimented with layering washes and background.

What I did today :) Im really liking how my painting is coming along. Dean (the kick ass tutor) told me to concentrate on using blocks of colour and directional brushstrokes to create a form, and its really starting to pull together.

Lucian Freud oils coming up soon...

Life painting

I like painting. It makes me feel calm :) I used to paint alllll the time, and im recently getting back into it. The colours I use are completely autonomous, I don't think about it just layer and layer and layer until it looks mildly recognisable. Something that will deffinately be pursued, even more so than the crap pen and ink stuff before this post. This is REAL work. I feel like im finally finding my style :D
